NCCI for Women Release Paths

North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women is an NCDAC state prison in Raleigh, outside Bertie County. It appears in the Bertie facility map only because women from the Bertie–Martin Regional Jail were moved there after the June 2026 incident. That temporary role does not make it a Bertie County jail, and it does not make each transferred detainee an NCDAC-sentenced offender.

For a woman serving a state sentence, NCDAC OPI is the main public path. A completed prison episode can show an Actual Release Date, while the supervision portion can show probation, parole, or post-release status. For a relocated regional detainee, ask the regional jail or committing county for the release-transfer record. That record should distinguish continued detention from bond, a court order, time served, or another true community-release basis.

Check NCCI Women's Release Record

Use the NCDAC OPI search when a state sentence is plausible. Search by offender number when possible. That identifier is safer than a name because it persists across NCDAC admissions. If only a name is available, compare age or birth information, conviction county, admission history, and sentence details before opening the best-matched record.

1. Enter the NCDAC offender number, or search the full name and narrow the candidate list with available identity filters.
2. Match the record through conviction, admission, and sentence details rather than relying only on the facility name.
3. Read Current Location and Previous Location to understand whether the record describes confinement at NCCI for Women or another state prison.
4. Compare Projected Release Date with Actual Release Date. The first can change; the second records the end of the identified prison episode.
5. Review Probation/Parole/Post Release Status to see whether community supervision continued after the prison release.
6. If no state sentence matches and the person came from Bertie–Martin, request the local booking's transfer or release entry from its custodian.

The research confirms NCDAC as the operator and Raleigh as the location, but it does not provide a verified address or telephone for this facility. None should be guessed. Use NCDAC's live channels for state-prison routing and OPI for the public status. For a regional detainee, contact Bertie–Martin Regional Jail at 252-794-9283 and ask which office currently owns the booking and release record.

When contacting NCDAC, provide the offender number and identify the sentence or state custody episode. When contacting the regional jail, provide the full name, birth information or booking number if lawfully known, and the approximate booking date. Ask for the disposition, effective date, receiving agency, and present record custodian rather than asking only whether the person has “left.”

NCCI Women's OPI Release Fields

An NCDAC result has several layers. The top summary distinguishes Inmate Status from Probation/Parole/Post Release Status. Detail sections can show Incarceration Status, Current Status, Admission Date, Admitting Location, Control Status, Current Location, and Previous Location. Sentence history can include conviction and sentence dates, service status, minimum and maximum terms, Projected Release Date, Actual Release Date, and parole start or end information.

A historical state record can remain searchable after release because OPI is not just a current headcount. That makes it useful for an NCDAC-sentenced woman. It does not replace the regional jail's record for a temporary detainee whose local case never became an NCDAC sentence.

If OPI displays an offender image for a covered state record, treat it as an NCDAC correctional image. It is not proof that the same image came from the Bertie–Martin booking. Match the offender number and sentence before using the photo as an identity aid.

Which Bertie Release System Applies

Bertie County already has two institutions with “Bertie” in common use: the regional jail and Bertie Correctional Institution in Windsor. NCCI for Women adds a third state location to the search only because of the emergency transfer. Each has a different role. Bertie–Martin normally serves pretrial and short-term local custody. Bertie CI is a state prison. NCCI for Women is a Raleigh state prison outside the county.

Start with the legal custody episode, not the building name. A local booking remains a local booking when an emergency placement agreement changes the bed location. A state sentence remains an NCDAC matter even if the conviction came from a county far from Raleigh. Use the agency named on the booking, sentence, or transfer document to choose the record system.

The nearby-name problem can be checked against the Bertie Correctional Institution release record, which follows NCDAC's state-prison route rather than the regional-jail route.

NCCI Women's 2026 Transfer Trap

The June 29, 2026 regional-jail event created a rare wording trap. Reports said people were “released” from the seized part of the building during negotiations, but they left under law-enforcement control. The full population was transferred, and the jail building was secured. For the women moved to NCCI for Women, that movement was continued custody, not community release.

Initial placement may not remain current. A later move to another prison or county facility would also be a transfer unless the individual record shows a community disposition. Call the regional jail or committing county to ask which agency has physical custody, which agency owns the booking and release record, and whether the named event was a transfer or discharge.

A missing name can result from the changed custody site, a delayed feed, a spelling variation, or a move to an uncovered system. It cannot safely be converted into “released.” The same care applies if OPI shows a location but no state sentence matching the local booking.

NCCI Women's Actual Release

For a sentenced woman, Actual Release Date closes the NCDAC prison episode named in the sentence record. It does not always end all state authority. The supervision section may show parole or post-release supervision after the person leaves prison. A separate agency hold can also change whether the state-prison release becomes immediate return to the community.

Projected Release Date is different. North Carolina Structured Sentencing uses minimum and maximum terms, and earned time can reduce the maximum toward the minimum under the controlling rules. NCDAC's official formulation requires service of the full minimum and at least 85 percent of the maximum for covered felony sentences. Earned time from a qualifying work or full-time program assignment can reduce the maximum toward the minimum, but not below it. A transfer, program completion, discipline, court action, or a later correction may change the calculation. That state framework applies to an NCDAC sentence, not to a pretrial regional detainee whose release turns on bond, court action, or the local booking record.

For a relocated local detainee, bond and court action may control release, and there may be no computed NCDAC prison date at all. Request the regional-jail release or transfer entry and inspect the Bertie or Martin court record as appropriate. Treat the notice as a prompt to check the record, not as a substitute for an NCDAC Actual Release Date or regional-jail disposition. A clear answer identifies both the agency whose custody ended and the custody that followed.
