Bertie County VINE Coverage
North Carolina calls its statewide notification network NC SAVAN, short for Statewide Automated Victim Assistance and Notification. VINELink is the public web and mobile interface used to search participating custody data and register for event notices. State policy says North Carolina county jails use SAVAN, while changes in the state's OPUS corrections system trigger notices for state-prison events.
That statewide description does not prove that every Bertie–Martin Regional Jail record is visible at every moment. The July 2026 research sweep found no official Bertie-specific enrollment or feed declaration. Test coverage with a properly identified person in the live search or call SAVAN. If the record is absent, use the official Bertie sheriff and jail contacts and ask whether the person is held, transferred, or released. A missing result is not a community-release finding.

Bertie County VINE Release Fields
The fields visible in VINELink can vary by source and by the live interface. Read only what the matched record displays. A custody status such as “Released” is an event supplied by a participating source. It does not, by itself, state that the person walked into the community. Bond, sentence completion, transfer, and another agency's hold can lead to very different next steps.

A projected prison release event may be sent after NCDAC audits the sentence following admission. It is not the same as an actual release. Later sentence work, discipline, court action, or another hold can change the outcome. Save the source, event date, and matched identifier when the distinction matters.
Note: A transfer ends custody at one place but can continue confinement under another agency, so it must not be labeled community release.
Register Bertie County Release Alerts

Enter the phone PIN when the automated call arrives. Without acknowledgment, policy says calls repeat at set intervals for 24 hours.
The PIN is not an offender identifier. It confirms that the registered recipient heard the telephone message and stops the repeat-call cycle. Keep it private and accessible. If contact details change, update the registration through the interface rather than assuming the old notice route still works.
NC SAVAN's Bertie County Layer
NC SAVAN is more than a generic VINELink label. Its official policy ties state-prison notices to OPUS changes and states that county jails also use SAVAN. Covered NCDAC events include a projected release date after audit and admission, release with supervision, release without supervision, escape and capture, minimum custody, death, and home leave. The program can therefore report several changes that do not equal an unconditional community release.
The Bertie detail remains narrower. Research did not locate an official declaration naming the regional jail's live feed or its current enrollment status. This matters because the Bertie–Martin population was relocated after the regional jail incident. A local booking may be physically housed at an NCDAC facility while the regional jail or committing county still owns the booking record. Search the person carefully, then ask which agency supplied the event and which agency now holds the record.
People can also register by telephone through NC SAVAN at 1-877-627-2826. NCDAC Victim Support Services lists 1-866-719-0108. These numbers can help with program access, but the custody agency remains the source for the disposition itself.
Confirm Bertie County VINE Releases
Confirmation starts with the agency named on the event. For a Bertie local booking, call Bertie–Martin Regional Jail at 252-794-9283 and give the full name plus a date of birth or booking number if lawfully known. Ask for three clear points: whether the person is still confined, whether the person left for the community, or whether another agency received the person. Then ask for the effective event date and the disposition or destination that can be released.
For an NCDAC sentence, compare the notice with the Offender Public Information record. The Actual Release Date documents the end of that prison episode, while the supervision section may show that state authority continues in the community. A projected date is changeable and does not establish departure. If the person was a Bertie–Martin detainee temporarily placed in a state building, physical location alone does not turn the booking into a state sentence.
“Released with supervision” still permits state oversight, while release by one agency does not cancel a separate detainer or hold.
When documentary proof is needed, request the jail release entry, transfer record, or NCDAC record tied to the identified episode. Include enough identity and date detail to separate that stay from earlier cases. VINELink is useful for speed. Bertie County VINE Check Limits
VINELink is a notice system, not a permanent court or release-order archive. A source can lag, become unavailable, or omit an agency. Do not ignore a direct call from the jail merely because the online status has not changed. The reverse is also true. A released alert should be confirmed with the reporting jail or NCDAC, especially when another sovereign could have a hold.
Federal custody requires a separate path. The BOP Inmate Locator covers sentenced federal prisoners and historical BOP custody. A BOP entry such as “Released” or “Not in BOP custody” ends only the status it reports. It does not resolve an ICE, U.S. Marshals Service, state, or local hold. VINELink cannot fill that federal gap.
The North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry is also not a general release tool. It applies only when registration law covers the person. An entry does not prove release from Bertie–Martin, and the absence of an entry says nothing about ordinary custody status. Use each official source only for the facts it is designed to report.
